Happy 75th Birthday Elvis!

January 8, 2010

Today would have been Elvis Presley’s 75th birthday. I’m a big fan of his work. I’ll even admit to loving his films, even the really cheesy ones. Jailhouse Rock has always been my favorite. Elvis had his ups and downs in his life but remained an amazing performer through it all. You can even watch his ’68 Comeback Special and Aloha from Hawaii performances on DVD now.

I recommend the two part biography by Peter Guralnick, Last Train to Memphis: The Rise of Elvis Presley and Careless Love: The Unmaking of Elvis Presley, if you want to learn more about Elvis.

In honor of his birthday, I am posting one of my drawings of Elvis. Happy Birthday Elvis!

Off Topic: More Beatles!

September 9, 2009

The Beatles are my absolute favorite band and John Lennon happens to be my favorite. So today, 9/9/09, I’m posting my drawing of John Lennon. I first encountered the Beatles after my father bought The Beatles 1 CD. He really isn’t a big fan, so I have no idea why he would have bought it, but he did. I took the disc into my room and listened to the music and liked it. But I was drawn into Beatlemania when I decided to buy A Hard Day’s Night on DVD. After that,¬†there was no saving me.

So while I’m eagerly awaiting my copy of The Beatles: Rock Band, here’s my drawing of John Lennon.

In honor of¬†tomorrow’s release of the remastered Beatles albums and Beatles Rock Band, I’m posting a drawing of George Harrison that I drew a few years ago. Tomorrow I’ll post one of John Lennon.
